Day 1 Part 2

Scrubbed at first briefing as weather forecast was low cloud and drizzle. Tracey and I had a lovely round of golf in the afternoon in glorious sunshine. To be fair there probably was only a small window!

Played Minchinhampton Avening course which was excellent. My golf was not so and I allowed Tracey to sneak a win.

After briefing, we held a pilots' forum to discuss important topics such as should team flying be allowed, does Tim J need some friends, start rules that may reduce leeching, should we (could we) prohibit data feeds to the cockpit such as Flarm tracking, weather, in flight tactical help from crews etc. On this last topic everyone agreed that we should try but technology advances such as ADSB are going to hard to control.

Very interesting idea on starts was to declare a start by event button within seconds of crossing the line, with a rule that you cannot restart within 10 minutes. As pilots would not know whether the lead pilot has pressed it would be much harder to latch on. Could work if Flarm was limited to 2k or so. Although, as no-one follows me it is unlikely to help J1M!

Second interesting idea is to widen the appeal of Nationals competition by running handicap competition for the class as well as the scratch competition. This would allow pilots with older gliders to race too.

Still 1st equal....
